The Story of the Autograph

Brad Mills is a former third baseman and manager in the major leagues. His playing career spanned from 1980 to 1983 and he spent that part of his career exclusively with the Montreal Expos. He managed the Houston Astros from 2010 to 2012.

Mills is a native of California. After high school he attended the College of the Sequoias and then the University of Arizona. He was first drafted in the 16th round of the 1977 MLB Draft while he was at the College of the Sequoias but he never signed. He was them chosen by the Expos in the 1979 MLB Draft in the 17th round while he was with the Arizona Wildcats. He made his major league debut for the Expos on June 8, 1980.

In his four years with the Expos he never played more than 54 games in a season. That was in 1982 when he hit .224 with the only home run of his career and drove in two RBI. After his playing days he managed in the minors for a few organizations. He got his first shot to coach in the majors with the Phillies from 1997 as a first base coach. He also coach with the Expos, Red Sox and later with the Indians.

The Astros gave him a shot as manager for the 2010 season as he replaced their interim manager over the winter before that season started. He would coach them to their first 100-loss season in 2011. He would be fired in August of the following season.

The Score on Brad Mills – 6.5

The blue marker Brad used looks pretty good with these old Expos uniforms. Unfortunately these are a bit busy and don’t let his signature stick out. The 1983 Topps card is most definitely the best of the bunch in my opinion.

Thanks Mr. Mills! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
