The Story of the Autograph

Brad Johnson is a former quarterback in the NFL. He played from 1994 to 2008 with the Minnesota Vikings (twice), Washington Redskins, Tampa Bay Bucanneers, and Dallas Cowboys.

Johnson was born in Georgia and grew up in North Carolina. He played football and basketball in high school, earning All-American honors in football and all-state honors in basketball. He went on to play for Florida State University in college. He would alternate starting and backup duties but did help the Seminoles win the 1990 Fiesta Bowl. He also was part of their Blockbuster Bowl and Cotton Bowl winning teams the next two seasons. The Vikings drafted him with their ninth round pick in the 1992 NFL Draft.

He started his career backing up Sean Salisbury and Rich Gannon. It was in his third year that he got the chance to start eight games and then 13 the following season as he was the back up to Warren Moon. He played in the World League in Europe in 1995 and was back with the Vikings but was always behind Moon until 1997 when he started the first 12 games of the year and went 8-4. He would be benched for Randall Cunningham after having back issues.

He was traded to the Redskins where he would earn the first of his two Pro Bowl honors. He led the team to a 10-6 record and threw for a career high 4,005 yards with 24 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He came back down to earth a bit the next season. Johnson signed with Tampa Bay as a free agent for the 2000 season. He had two great seasons for the Bucs including another Pro Bowl nod and winning a Super Bowl.

He went back to Minnesota and eventually took the starting reigns there after Daunte Culpepper went down. He finally ended his career in 2008 after two seasons with the Cowboys as a backup. He ultimately ended up 63rd in career passer rating as of January 2022. He also had 13 straight seasons with a 60+% completion percentage, the first in to do so in the NFL. He is also one of two players to complete a touchdown pass to himself, the other being Marcus Mariota. He caught his own deflected pass and rand for three yards to score.

I think I actually go this card from my boss. It has to be the first (and I think to date, only) card I have signed that is also a patch or memorabilia card. Basically I don’t think I have anything other than standard cards signed. I think because of that maybe it limited the size of the signature Brad could do. But it still looks really good.

Thanks Mr. Johnson! I’m giving this return a 7.
