The Story of the Autograph

Brad Brach is a right-handed relief pitcher in Major League Baseball. He most recently closed out the 2019 season, but he’s been in the league since 2011 and also played for the Padres, Orioles, Braves, and Cubs.

Brach is a native of New Jersey and grew up a Mets fan (more on that later). He went to college at Monmouth University and was a starting pitcher during his college years where he set records for career wins and strikeouts. The Padres drafted him in 2008 in the 42nd round of the MLB Draft. He made his debut two years later on August 31, 2011.

I think he would be best known as an Orioles where the Padres traded him in November 2013. He pitched in the postseason there and made his one-and-only All-Star appearance while with Baltimore. That came in 2016 when he had a 2.05 ERA in 71 games and 79 innings. He put up a 10-4 record as a reliever that year.

He’s bounced around since then, but ended up with the team he rooted for as a kid this year. Or is it more than just his when he was a kid? While watching one of the Mets games this year I heard a story that in 2015 he attended one of the World Series games at City with a Mets jersey on. I personally like stories like that and I’m glad he got to play for his favorite team even if it was only for a couple months.

Will the real Brad Brach please stand up?

I actually received two Brad Brach returns on the same day. One I sent during Spring Training and the other during the end of the season. He was on different teams each time I sent it. But these signatures look COMPLETELY different. The more accurate signature is the top one that I sent in Spring Training. I’m not sure what to think of the bottom one. Is it ghost signed? Is that what we might consider it? (i.e., signed by a “helper”)

Thanks Mr. Brach! I’m giving this return (the real one) a 7.5.
