The Story of the Autograph
Bobby Jenks is a former relief pitcher in the major leagues. The right-hander played from 2005 to 2011, mostly with the Chicago White Sox but played his last season with the Boston Red Sox.
Jenks is a native of Washington state. He mostly grew up playing in American Legion leagues. His grades were low and he wasn’t allowed to play on his high school teams. The Cardinals drafted him out of high school in the fifth round of the 2000 MLB Draft. He was a fireballer and while he was in the Angels system he tended to have elbow trouble that kept him on the injured list. He never made it to the majors with the Angels.
After the 2004 season, the White Sox claimed him off waivers and he started the season with the Birmingham Barons. He was called up and made his major league debut on July 6, 2005. He would play in 32 games that season with a 1-1 record and 2.75 ERA in 39.1 innings. The White Sox would go on that season to play the Houston Astros in the World Series and they would win in four games with Jenks pitching in each of them with two saves.
In 2005 and 2006 he would be an All-Star both seasons. He had 40+ saves both of those seasons and continued to have success closing games with the White Sox through the 2010 season. He became a free agent and went to Boston. Unfortunately he struggled there and had a lot of injuries. In September he was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism. He had a surgery in the off season for bone spurs in his back and unfortunately there were complications that would end his career.
In 2021 he starting coaching for the Grand Junction Rockies in the Pioneer League. He was promoted to manager after the season.
The Score on Bobby Jenks – 6.0
Bobby only looks like he signs his initials. That of course makes his signature on the small side, but definitely not the smallest we’ve ever seen. While it might be small, the blue marker does make it pop. I do like that I have a few here from some of his best years, like 2006. I think my favorite is the Fleer Ultra card though.
Thanks Mr. Jenks! I’m giving this return a 6 overall.
