The Story of the Autograph

Bob Breunig played as a middle linebacker for the Cowboys from 1975 through 1984. He spent is entire career in Dallas and was part of some great Cowboy teams.

Breunig was born in southern California but grew up in Arizona. He excelled in football (obviously) but also in wrestling as he won the 1971 AAA Heavyweigt State Championship with a 42-1 record. From there he went to college at Arizona State. He went on to start as a sophomore and lead the team in tackles. He would continue that in is junior and senior years as well. While he was playing the Sun Devils were 28-8 overall.

In 1975 the Cowboys took him with the 70th overall pick in the third round of the 1975 NFL Draft. First he replaced Dave Edwards at strongside linebacker. Then in 1977 he replaced Lee Roy Jordan as middle linebacker and called the defense. In the 25 year history of the Cowboys he was the third player to old the position as a regular starter. He went on to lead the team in tackles for six seasons. He went to three Pro Bowls (1979, 1980 and 1982), was a four-time All-NFC player, and was second-team All-Pro in 1980. He would help the Cowboys to the Super Bowl championship in Super Bowl XII, but the Cowboys made two others with Bob as well.

In 1984 he had started 117 games in a row until he developed some back problems. Ultimately that led to his retirement and he was replaced by Eugene Lockart.

The Score on Bob Breunig – 5.0

BraveSTARR Score LogoBraveSTARR Score 5

Bob has a good signature, but there are two problems with this one. First, there’s a smudge at the bottom of is “g”. It’s just right in the spot where a finger will hit it. Second, it’s not the greatest card for a signature. It’s a bit busy and that is especially the case since it’s signed in blue.

It isn’t any less appreciated though… Thanks Mr. Breunig! This one gets a 5.
