The Story of the Autograph

Blaine Beatty played major league baseball as a pitcher in 1989 and 1991. His major league career was spent pitching for the New York Mets, mostly as a reliever.

Blaine was originally drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in 1984 in the fifth round, but didn’t sign. He was drafted two more times by the Orioles (first round) and Cardinals (second round) before finally signing with the Orioles after the 1986 draft when he was drafted in the ninth round. The Orioles really must have liked him to spend three draft picks on him in two different years. He spent the first few years in the minors before being traded along with a player to be named later for Doug Sisk in 1987.

He made his only major league appearances with the Mets in 1989 and 1991. It was only seven total appearances with one start. He sat out the entire 1990 season with injuries. The Mets traded him to the Expos in 1991 and he stayed in the minors until 1997 and retired. He immediately went in coaching starting in the Pirates system and then moving on to the Mets and now the Orioles system.

Blaine might not have had much of a career in the majors, but he does have a major league signature. His double “Bs” are big and he really fills up the card well. He’s always been a pretty good signer so if you can find his cards it definitely worth a send. I think I have a better version of this card, but this one is still pretty good.

Thanks Mr. Beatty! I’m giving this a 7.
