The Story of the Autograph
Barry Lyons is a former catcher in the major leauges. He played from 1986 to 1995 with the New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, California Angels, and Chicago White Sox.
Lyons was born and raised in Biloxi, Mississippi. He went to college at Delta State University. He was first drafted by the Tigers in the 25th round 1981 MLB Draft but never signed. The next year he was taken by the Mets in the 15th round of the 1982 MLB Draft and signed with them. He was on some great minor league teams that won championships throughout the Mets farm system. He was also a pretty big part of them, winning the MVP of the South Altantic League in 1984.
He didn’t appear in his first game until April 19, 1986. Unfortunately the Mets had traded for Gary Carter which pushed him down the depth chart and he didn’t receive too much time that year. His playing time increased when Ed Hearn was traded to Kansas City but was still backing up Carter. He then later split time with Mackey Sasser but his hitting troubles meant that Sasser had the upper hand.
After moving on to the Dodgers and Angels in 1991 he never got much time with either team. He then spent a few years in the minors for other teams and got one more shot with the White Sox in 1995. He tried to make it with the Rangers but ended up retiring.
After retiring he coach in the minors and spent time broadcasting in the minors as well. He’s also worked really hard to bring and keep a minor league team in his hometown of Biloxi.

Barry might have the neatest and cleanest signature that I’ve ever seen. I don’t know if its only his signature but he must have perfect handwriting. The blue marker with the Mets uniforms always looks great even if the blue-on-blue hides it a bit.
