The Story of the Autograph
Alonzo Highsmith is a former running back in the NFL and former professional boxer. He played from 1987 thoguht 1992 with the Oilers, Cowboys, and Buccaneers.
Highsmith was born and raised in Florida. In high school he played defensive end on a team that reached the state championship in 1982. He was an All-American, Florida high school Defensive Player of the Year, and Dade County Player of the Year. He also ran track and played basketball.
His next stop was the University of Miami where he was converted to a running back as a Freshman. His Hurricanes won the 1983 National Championship with a 31-30 victory over Nebraska in the Orange Bowl. As Jimmy Johnson arrived as the coach he would be converted to a fullback to finish his college career. The Oilers drafted him with in the first round of the 1987 NFL Draft with the third overall pick.
He was a hold out over his contract to start his career and only got into eight games in his rookie year. He developed into a great fullback, but in 1990 Jack Pardee came to touch and implemented the run-and-shoot offense. Pardee didn’t think he was a great fit and traded Highsmith to the Cowboys.
Highsmith had had a series of offseason knee surgeries and doctors were skeptical of his returning to football. But with Jimmy Johnson, his former college coach now with the Cowboys, the deal went through. He only played seven games before going on injured reserve. A contract holdout the next year forced him down the depth chart and he only got into two games before being waived in October of 1991. The Bucs picked him up but he would only be there a year before being released again.
After playing he started boxing and compiled a 27-1-2 record as a heavyweight with 23 knockouts. More recently he’s worked in front offices in Green Bay and Cleveland. This January he took a position with the Seahawks.
The Score on Alonzo Highsmith – 7.5
I didn’t really know if Alonzo was a signer or not. But every so often I do some checks of coaching staffs and front offices to try to find former players. With other successes of former players with Cleveland I took a shot. These are two pretty good cards to get signed because they do a good job of showing off the signature. The light blue and white uniforms of the old Oilers really make for a good card to sign in a lot of cases.
Thanks Mr. Highsmith! I’m giving this return a 7.5 overall.

Nice return. Love his Score card.
Yeah I was pretty happy with these. I didn’t necessarily expect it back because I had no idea he signed. Just saw his name and figured I would give it a shot.
