The Story of the Autograph
Adam LaRoche played in the majors for twelve years as a first baseman. He played in Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Boston, Arizona, Washington and Chicago. He’s the son of former major leaguer Dave LaRoche.
LaRoche was originally drafted by the Florida Marlins in the 1998 and the 1999 drafts but never signed with them. The Braves drafted him in 2000 and he decided to sign wit them. He made his major league debut for the Braves on April 7, 2004. It didn’t take long for him to get some significant playing time in Atlanta and he had some pretty good seasons there. While he was never a tremendous hitter for average, he had his best full season mark in Atlanta in 2006 when he hit .285. That year he also hit 32 homers and had 90 RBI for one of the best seasons of his career.
Later in his career he spent four years in Washington which is where I saw him play a lot. He was a staple for those teams at first base and was a key part of some good teams. Maybe his best season overall was 2012 when he hit .271 with 33 homers and 100 RBI, both of those last numbers being career highs. He earned a Silver Slugger Award because of that too. That same year he was a Gold Glover and got enough MVP votes to be 6th on the ballot.
The Score on Adam LaRoche – 7.5
I swear his autograph almost looks as if he wrote it backwards. Once you look a little harder you can tell it’s not because you can pick out the “L” in there, but it really looks like it. That’s part of the reason why I like his autograph so much. It’s definitely one you have to think about a little but is also pretty recognizable.
Thanks Mr. LaRoche! This one gets a 7.5.
