The Story of the Autograph
Raymond Clayborn is a former NFL cornerback. He played from 1977 through 1991 primarily for the New England Patriots and also for the Cleveland Browns.
Clayborn was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas and attended college at the University of Texas. The Patriots drafted him with the 16th overall pick of the 1977 NFL Draft. At the beginning of his career he not only played cornerback but he also returned kicks.
His best years were with New England where he made the Pro Bowl three times in 1983, 1985, and 1986. He had 36 interceptions with the Patriots with a career high of six in 1986 (returning one of those for his only interception touchdown return). As a kick returner in 1977 he score three touchdowns including a 101 yard return. His time in New England included their run to Super Bowl XX where they lost to the Chicago Bears.
Before finishing out his career he went on to play with the Cleveland Browns in 1990 and 1991, only playing one game in that final season.
The Score on Raymond Clayborn – 5.5
Raymond has a pretty cool loopy signature. I wouldn’t say it’s small, but I wouldn’t say he fills up the cards either. Still he used a great marker and it’s really strong on that 1991 Pro Set card. The 1991 Topps card has a lot of smudging on it though. It was most likely put in the envelope wet and then smudged against the back of the Pro Set card. I really need to find some cards of him as a Patriot.
Thanks Mr. Clayborn! I’m giving this return a 5.5.
