The Story of the Autograph

James Laurinaitis is a former linebacker in the NFL. His career spanned from 2009 to 2016 and he spent the majority of his career with the Rams and the last year with the Saints.

Laurinaitis was born and raised in Minnesota and is the son of former Road Warrior “Animal” of WWE fame (his uncles were also professional wrestlers). He played football and hockey for his high school and was actually scouted in hockey. He would have been drafted by an NHL team if he wasn’t aiming to play football. He went on to play and excel at Ohio State winning several awards including two Big Ten Defensive POY awards, All-Americans, and All-Big Ten acknowledgements.

His success in college got him picked by the St. Louis Rams in the 2009 NFL Draft with the 35th overall pick (second round). He started immediately and remained the starter until he and the Rams parted ways after the 2015 season. He moved on to the Saints but was injured after a few weeks, ending his streak of 115 straight starts. He was placed on injured reserve and would retire the next April after an eight year career.

His best year was probably 2012 in St. Louis. He recorded 142 total tackles with 117 solo and had five sacks and two interceptions. All those were either career highs or tied a career high.

These days Laurinaitis works in broadcasting for the Big Ten Network.

The Score on James Laurinaitis – 6.5

James has a nice and big signature. It’s a bit of chicken scratch and it’s hard to understand it other than maybe the “J” and the “55”, but it’s all there. I really like it on the Absolute card. That card is almost built to have an autograph in that white faded section.

Thanks Mr. Laurinaitis! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
