The Story of the Autograph

Neil Lomax is a former quarterback in the NFL who played from 1981 through 1988. He spent his entire career in the Cardinals organization which at that time started in St. Louis and moved to Phoenix.

Lomax was born and raised in Oregon. He went to Portland State University and by the end of his career he compiled a resume that would earn him a place in the College Football Hall of Fame. He passed for over 3,500 yards and 26 touchdowns three times and capped off his college career with 4,094 yards and 37 touchdowns in 1980. He set 90 NCAA records including a game where he threw seven touchdown passes not in a game… not in a half… but in a quarter.

The Cardinals drafted him in the second round of the 1981 NFL Draft. Unfortunately he wasn’t as good as a pro as he was in college and it probably didn’t help to be part of an up and down Cardinals team. He did make the Pro Bowl twice, but also was benched at times. His best year by far was 1984 when he threw for 4,614 yards and 28 touchdowns to lead the Cardinals to a 9-7 record.

Neil has an OK signature and the blue sticks out on the red uniform pretty well. I’ve said it before, this is one of my favorite football sets so it’s always nice for me to get ink on these cards.

Thanks Mr. Lomax! I’m giving this one a 5.
