The Story of the Autograph
Steve Mura was a pitcher in the majors from 1978 through 1985. He played with the Padres, Cardinals, White Sox and Athletics. During his time in the majors he worked as both a reliever and a starter
Mura was drafted by the Padres in the 2nd round of the 1976 MLB Draft. He made his debut two years later on September 5, 1978. In his time with the Padres there wasn’t much to note. Maybe the only thing was that in the 1981 season he led the majors in losses with 14. After that 1982 season Steve was involved with something else of note. He was part the trade that sent Ozzie Smith to the Cardinals.
Because of that trade he was fortunate enough to be with the Cardinals during their championship season in 1982. He went 12-11 that year as a starter with a 4.05 ERA. He finished out his career with a season each on the White Sox and Athletics.
The Score on Steve Mura – 6.0
I like Steve’s autograph. He has a pretty cool way to sign the “S” and kind of almost wrap it around the rest of his first name. The rest from there is pretty standard but it has a good angle too it. That ’81 Fleer card isn’t great because of how dark it is and the ’82 Topps has the facsimile signature that he signed over. Good to get him in a Cards uniform though.
Thanks Mr. Mura! I’m giving these a 6.
