The Story of the Autograph
Chip Hale played as an infielder in the majors with the Twins and Dodgers. He also has coached with the Diamondbacks (where he also managed in 2015-16), Mets, Athletics and currently the Washington Nationals.
Hale hails (ha ha) from San Jose, CA and went to the University of Arizona. He was drafted by the Twins in the 17th round in 1987. Two years later he made his debut with the Twins on August 27, 1989. He played 28 games in that first season and only one the next year. He wouldn’t be back with the big ball club again until 1993 when he appeared in 69 games for the Twins. That was probably his best year wit a .333 average, 3 home runs, 27 RBI and two stolen bases.
As a coach/manager he was the Manager of the Year for the Tucson Sidewinders when they finished with a 91-53 record in the PCL. He was a manager for those two years with the Diamondbacks as well with 148-176 record. His time in coaching has been in either as a bench coach or a third base coach
The Score on Chip Hale – 4.5
This is a bit of a wild and crazy signature from Chip. The two 1990 cards are doubles and I didn’t remember his signature being this crazy. It’s one of those signatures that I get the feeling he doesn’t sign by resting his hand on a surface, but more pointing at the card with the marker (like you would when you sign for your credit card at Target). Those cards definitely aren’t replacing what I have. My favorite of the bunch is the 1994 Topps card but it does have a little fingerprint on it under his foot.
Thanks Mr. Hale! These get a 4.5.
