The Story of the Autograph

Matt Mieske is a former outfielder in the major leagues. He played from 1993 to 2000 with the Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago Cubs, Seattle Mariners, Houston Astros and Arizona Diamondbacks.

Mieske is a native of Michigan. He went to college at Western Michigan University and was first drafted in the 20th round of the 1989 MLB Draft by the Oakland Athletics but didn’t sign. One year later the Padres took him in the 17th round. He never played for the Padres though. After a couple years in their minor league system he was traded with Ricky Bones and Jose Valentin to the Brewers for Gary Sheffield and Geoff Kellogg (a minor leaguer). He would make his major league debut for the Brewers on May 3, 1993.

His playing time built up over the first couple season and he broke the 100 games played mark in the 1995 and 1996 seasons for the Brew Crew. Those would be the only two seasons where he would play significantly more than half a season. His best year was 1996 when he hit .278 in 127 games with career highs in home runs (14) and RBI (64).

After he left the Brewers in 1997 as a free agent he bounced around for the rest of his career. He played his final game with the Diamondbacks on September 30, 2000.

The Score on Matt Mieske – 6.5

Matt doesn’t have the smallest signature I’ve seen, but it’s surprisingly on the small side. The other thing I would say is that it doesn’t actually look like his name. He kind of loops his “Ms” and that makes them not look like “Ms”. I think the other odd thing, that I always find odd, is that he only put a bible verse on one card. Usually if you put a verse on, you put it on everything.

Thanks Mr. Mieske! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
