The Story of the Autograph

Kevin McReynolds is a former outfielder in the major leagues. He played from 1983 to 1994 with the San Diego Padres, New York Mets (twice), and Kansas City Royals.

McReynolds was born and raised in Arkansas. In high school he was one of the best players in the state and helped his school to the Arkansas Class AAA State Championship where he was MVP of the tournament in 1978 and named Arkansas High School Player of the Year. He was drafted by the Brewers in high school but didn’t sign and went on to attend the University of Arkansas. He was great in college and helped them finish second in the College World Series in his freshman year. The Padres then drafted him with the sixth overall pick in the first round of the 1981 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut for them on June 2, 1983.

As a rookie he was part of the outfield of the Padres team that reach the 1984 World Series and ultimately lost to the Tigers. He played great in the playoffs but broke his wrist before the Series. He was traded to the Mets in December of 1986 after the Mets just won the World Series. He had some really great seasons in New York from 1987 to 1990 when he was pretty much going to hit around .280 with 20-30 homers, 80-100 RBI and throw in some stolen bases. He started to decline a bit and was traded with Gregg Jeffries and Keith Miller to the Royals for Brett Saberhagen in December of 1991. After a couple of years in Kansas City he returned to the Mets for one more year in a trade involving Vince Coleman.

Kevin has a really nice signature. You can tell its his, it has its own style and he uses the perfect type of marker for my taste. I think my favorite of these is the 1991 Topps card because the signature came out so strong. I know I’ll be sending to him again to try to get him on a Padres and Royals card, but I love that he signed my Mets cards.

Thanks Mr. McReynolds! I’m giving this return a 7.5 overall.
