The Story of the Autograph

Woody Williams is a former right-handed starting pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 1993 to 2007 with the Toronto Blue Jays, San Diego Padres (twice), St. Louis Cardinals, and Houston Astros.

Williams is a Texas native. He went to the University of Houston and was drafted from there by the Blue Jays in the 28th round of the 1988 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut five years later on May 14, 1993. In his first three seasons with Toronto he was strictly a relief pitcher. In 1996 they converted him to a starter. Ater two losing seasons he would put up his first winning record in 1998 (10-9).

After that 1998 season the Blue Jays traded him and two other players to the Padres in a deal that got them back Joey Hamilton. He played well in San Diego with a 12-12 record in 1999 and then a 10-8 record in 2000. In 2001 he was traded tot he Cardinals for Ray Lankford. He went into that trade with an 8-8 record and closed out the season with a 7-1 record for the Cardinals, ending the season at 15-9.

In 2003 he had his best season. That year with the Cardinals he put up a career high in wins, going 18-9 with a 3.87 ERA over 34 games and 220.2 innings. It earned him his one-and-only All-Star appearance. In the following season he won two games in the playoffs, helping the Cardinals to the World Series against the Red Sox. Unfortunately he would have a rough go of it in the Series and gave up seven runs in just 2.1 innings.

He went back to San Diego for the 2005 and 2006 seaons, putting up one more winning record in 2006, going 12-5. He would have his last season in 2007 with the Astros. After his playing days he coached in high school and was a pitching coach for the Texas Longhorns.

Williams is one of only 21 pitchers to win a game against all 30 MLB teams.

The Score on Woody Williams – 6.5

This was one I wasn’t really sure about. I didn’t see a lot of successes from Woody, but when a few came across my feed I thought I would give it a try. I’d like to try another attempt with him and hopefully I can find a Cardinals card that I have of his for that. I think his signature came out well on these but the images are just very busy.

Thanks Mr. Williams! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
