The Story of the Autograph

Wendell Davis is a former wide receiver in the NFL. He played from 1988 through 1993 and spent his entire career with the Chicago Bears.

Davis was born and raised in Louisiana and went to college at LSU. While he was there he was a two-time First-team All-American and SEC Player of the Year in 1987. The Bears drafted him with their first round pick (the 27th overall) in the 1988 NFL Draft.

His best year came in 1991 when he set career highs in several different areas. He caught 61 balls for 945 yards and six touchdowns. He follow that up with another pretty good year with 734 yards and two touchdowns. 1993 was a disastrous year with an injury that ended his career. He severely tore the patella tendon in both of his knees and it was later found that both of his kneecaps were pushed into his thighs.  He tried to come back in 1995 with the Colts but never appeared in a game again.

In more recent years Davis has coached at the professional, college and high school levels.

The Score on Wendell Davis – 6.0

Wendell has a nice, fancy signature. It came out pretty well on all these cards. I think the biggest problem with these is due to the cards, which is the case with a lot of football cards. They just tend to be too busy and sometimes to dark to take an autograph well. Still, I really love his “W”.

Thanks Mr. Davis! I’m giving this return a 6.
