Tom Filer is a former right-handed starting pitcher in the major leagues. He played during six season from 1982 to 1992 appearing for the Chicago Cubs, Toronto Blue Jays, Milwaukee Brewers, and New York Mets.

Filer was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He not only stayed in Pennsylvania for college but stayed in the city of Philly, attending La Salle University. In 1980 he was taken by the Oakland Athletics in the rule 5 draft, then sent back to New York. Then he was traded to the Cubs for Barry Foote in 1981. He made his major league debut for the Cubs the next season on June 8, 1982. He made eight appearances that year, all starts and went 1-2 with a 5.53 ERA.

He continued to move around until the Brewers purchased his after the 1987 season. He got the most significant time in the majors with Milwaukee, getting big league time in three consecutive years. From 1988 to 1990 he made 39 appearances with 33 starts. He put up a 14-14 record (with a 7-3 winning season in 1989) and a 4.32 ERA.

After being released in 1990 he continued to move around. First he went to the Cubs as a free agent, then he was signed and resigned by the Mets where he would make his last appearance on August 7, 1992.

Tom has a nice signature. I like the way the loops in the “T” and “F” are sort of compliment each other. You could definitely pick out his signature. I love the way the blue marker he used goes so well with the uniforms he’s in. I think my favorites of this bunch are the 1983 Topps card and the 1989 Fleer card.

Thanks Mr. Filer! I’m giving this return a 6.5 overall.
