The Story of the Autograph
Thad Bosley is a former outfielder in the major leagues. He played from 1977 to 1990 with seven teams: California Angels (twice), Chicago White Sox, Milwaukee Brewers, Seattle Mariners, Chicago Cubs, Kansas City Royals, and Texas Rangers.
Bosley is a native of Oceanside, California. The Angels drafted him out of high school in the fourth round of the 1974 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut with them three years later on June 29, 1977. He made it into 58 games in that first season and then was part of a deal that sent him, Bobby Bond, and Richard Dotson to the White Sox for Brian Downing, Dave Frost, and Chris Knapp. This would be the first of four trades that he would be a part of in his career.
He was mainly a back up and a pinch hitter in his career and usually played less than 70 games per year. The exception to that is a three years stretch from 1985 to 1987 when he played for the Cubs and Royals. I those years he played 108, 87 and 80 games and they were some of the better in his career.
His best season in 1985 he played in 108 games and put up career highs across the board. You’d expect that I guess with getting a lot more opportunity than he had in the past. He hit .328 with seven homers and 27 RBI.
After his playing career was over he coached at a few different levels including high school, college and the major. But I think the best is that he was part of a funk group called Ballplayers with Lenny Randle.
The Score on Thad Bosley – 5.5
Thad seems to be one of those guys that grabs the pen at the end and the sort of swishes it over the card. It’s a very airy signature. I don’t tend to like that, but I do kind of like that “B” though with the way it’s sort of bottom heavy. I think my favorite of these is the 1986 card because he had his best season with the Cubs.
Thanks Mr. Bosely! I’m giving this return a 5.5.
