The Story of the Autograph

Steve Nicosia is a former catcher in the major leagues. His career spanned from 1978 to 1985 and he played for the Pirates, Giants, Expos and Blue Jays.

Nicosia was born in New Jersey but went to high school in Florida. He was drafted out of high school by the Pirates in the first round of the 1973 MLB Draft. Five years later he made his major league debut on July 8, 1978. He was primarily a platoon or backup player during his career and he is best known as a Pirate where he played from 1978 through 1983.

His highlights as a Pirate include being part of the winning club for the 1979 World Series. The Pirates played the Baltimore Orioles that year and Nicosia started most of the games due to the Orioles having several left-handed starters. That was also one of his more successful years at the plate. He hit .288 with four homers and thirteen RBI that season.

His best year, although in less games than some of his other seasons might have been 1984 when he hit .303 with two homers and nineteen RBI, however he only played in 48 games that year and had less than 150 at bats.

Steve had one of the highest rated autographs I received last year. There so much style to it. It has the feeling of him taking his time with it while still showing some flare. And he really fills up the card which is nice to see. The only thing I would say to remember for Steve is that it appears he just signs one at a time.

Thanks Mr. Nicosia! I’m giving this a 9.
