The Story of the Autograph

Steve Braun is a former third baseman and outfielder in the major leagues. He played from 1971 through 1985 with the Minnesota Twins, Seattle Mariners, Kansas City Royals, Toronto Blue Jays, and St. Louis Cardinals.

Braun was born and raised in New Jersey. He was drafted out of high school by the Minnesota Twins in the 10th round of the 1966 MLB Draft. He didn’t play baseball in 1968 or 1969 as he was on the team’s military list. He made his major league debut with the Twins on April 6, 1971.

The best years of his career came in Minnesota where he was playing at least 115 games per season from 1971 to 1976. During his time there he hit .284 with 35 homers, 273 RBI and 32 stolen bases. He moved on to the Mariners in November of 1976 via the Expansion Draft and spent the Mariners inaugural season of 1977 with them in Seattle. Then in 1978 he was traded to the Kansas City Royals for Jim Colborn.

From there he moved around via getting released and becoming a free agent and went on to Toronto and St. Louis. He got a shot at the postseason with both teams from Missouri but the best of those was the 1982 season in St. Louis where they won it all over the Brewers. After baseball Braun worked as a hitting coach in both the majors and the minors.

The Score on Steve Braun – 6.5

I like Steve’s signature because it has a little bit of fancy in it. It really starts big with that “S” and then gets a little smaller along the way. That includes the “B” in his last name as well. I think my favorite card of this much is how this came out on the 1985 cards. But my favorite cards might be the powder blues of both the Royals and Cardinals.

Thanks Mr. Braun! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
