The Story of the Autograph

Sid Bream is a former first baseman in the major leagues. He played from 1983 to 1994 with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Atlanta Braves, and Houston Astros.

Bream was born and raised in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He played baseball and basketball in high school and went on to attend Liberty University. The Dodgers drafted him in the second round of the 1981 MLB Draft. He made his debut for the Dodgers just two years later on September 1, 1983.

He was back and forth between the major and minors in his first few years with the Dodgers and was traded to the Pirates along with Cecil Espy as players to be named later in a deal for Bill Madlock. He got his first shot at the full time job in 1986 and delivered one of the best seasons of his career. He was a big part of a building Pirates team through 1990 until he moved on to Atlanta in 1990.

With Atlanta he came back to haunt the Astros a couple times. In a game in 1991 he hit his first career grand slam against his old team. Then in 1991 and 1992 he was part of Atlanta teams that would eliminate the Pirate in the NLCS. That included “The Slide” when he scored the run that won the Braves a chance at the World Series in 1992.

He moved on to the Astros as a free agent in 1994 and then retired in 1995.

Sid charges a nominal fee for his autograph ($3 – maybe the most fair of any player) but he always puts a great signature on your cards. He has a nice and big “S” and he always puts a quality signature on your cards.

Thanks Mr. Bream! I’m giving this return a 7 overall.
