The Story of the Autograph
Sal Butera is a former backup catcher in the major leagues. He played with the Twins (twice), Tigers, Expos, Reds, and Blue Jays from 1980 to 1988.
Butera is a native of Long Island, New York. He was signed as an amateur free agent by the Minnesota Twins in 1972 out of Suffolk County Community College. He spent eight seasons in the minors before making his debut on April, 10, 1980 backing up Butch Wynegar. He kept that position until he was traded to the Tigers in 1983, but he only played four games due to injury and was released at the end of the season.
He moved on to the Expos and the Reds before heading back to the Twins. And just in time too. He was part of the Twins World Series Championship run in 1987. Although he was released and resigned throughout the season. He moved on to the Blue Jays where he finished out his career.
After retiring he’s worked as a coach and scout. He currently works within the Blue Jays system. He was inducted in to the Suffolk County Sports Hall of Fame in 2002.
The Score on Sal Butera – 6.5
Sal has a pretty awesome “S” and “B”. They both seem to match and that little tail/loop matches as well. A couple of these are a little smudged but they are all still pretty nice. The 1988 Topps card is slightly dark though. But my favorite is the 1987 Topps card.
Thanks Mr. Butera! I’m giving this return a 6.5 overall.
