The Story of the Autograph

Richard Sherman is an NFL cornerback currently playing for the San Francisco 49ers. He previously played for the Seattle Seahawks and is a Pro Bowler, All-Pro and Super Bowl Champion.

Sherman grew up in Compton California and played not only football but also track & field. He won the state title in the triple jump and made the finals in the 110-meter hurdles, and finished 6th in the long jump. But not only was he a great athlete in high school, he was a great student. Sherman was the salutatorian in his class. All that earned him a scholarship to Stanford where he played football from 2006 through 2010. He actually started out as a wide receiver and moved to cornerback after suffering a season-ending knee injury and redshirting. He helped the 2010 Cardinal team to a 12-1 record.

The Seahawks drafted Sherman in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL Draft. He was the 25th cornerback overall that year. He started that rookie year fourth on the depth chart but earned his first career start at the end of October that year after Marcus Trufant and Walter Thurmond went to the IR for the remainder of the season. He started the next season and didn’t look back as the Seahawks created their “Legion of Boom” defense over the next several years. The Seahawks won Super Bowl XLVIII against the Broncos in Met Life Stadium and Sherman was selected to the Pro Bowl from 2013-2016. He led the NFL in interceptions in 2013.

The Seahawks released him this year after an injury plagued 2017. That happened on March 9, 2018 and the next day the 49ers signed him to a three-year deal.

The Score on Richard Sherman – 7.5

I like Richard’s signature, but what I like best about this one is that he signed it with a good size to it. I have another SI that he was on the cover of and he signed it really small. I don’t like that there isn’t a great place to sign on this one when signing in black, but it still came out pretty well. This one was actually sent back to me when I sent it to him at the Seahawks. So it’s interesting that he signed given he is a 49er now and the image depicts beating the 49ers.

Thanks Mr. Sherman! I’m giving this one a 7.5.
