The Story of the Autograph

Rey Sanchez is a former middle infielder in the major leagues. He played from 1991 to 2005. During that time he played for nine different clubs: Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees (twice), San Francisco Giants, Kansas City Royals, Atlanta Braves, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Seattle Mariners, and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

Sanchez was born in Puerto Rico but would attend high school in California. He was drafted out of high school in the 13th round of the 1986 MLB Draft by the Texas Rangers. He never appeared in the majors for the Rangers though and was instead traded to the Cubs in 1990. The next year he made his major league debut on September 8, 1991.

He started getting significant playing time in 1992 with the Cubs and was in Chicago until they traded him mid-season in 1997 to the Yankees. After finishing out that season with the Yankees he became more of a journeyman player. Most years he spent only one season with a team (if he wasn’t traded) except for Kansas City where he played for two and a half seasons.

While he was a starter on some teams, he was mostly an injury replacement on others and could play at second, short or third. During his 15 total seasons he was a .272 hitter with 15 home runs, 389 RBI and 55 stolen bases.

The Score on Rey Sanchez – 6.5

Rey doesn’t have two much of a signature. It almost appears that he puts most of his ink into his first name, although it’s kind of hard to figure out what exactly is what for his signature. I’d have to say the ’93 Upper Deck is the better card because it shows off his signature the best. But that card is much better because the picture is a whole lot more interesting too.

Thanks Mr. Sanchez! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
