The Story of the Autograph

Phil Bradley is a former outfielder who played for the Mariners, Phillies, Orioles, White Sox and in Japan with the Yomiuri Giants. He played in Major League Baseball for eight years from 1983 to 1990 and then in Japan for the 1991 season.

Bradley was born in Indiana but grew up and went to high school in Illinois. He played baseball and football for his high school and was a very successful athlete. He went to Missouri and played quarterback fro them, starting in the 1978 through 1980 seasons, taking them to three bowl games. He also lettered in baseball and was drafted by the Mariners in the third round of the 1981 draft.

A late-season call-up in 1983 he made his debut on September 2nd. He quickly found a home in left field and while he didn’t display power to start, he could hit. He hit .300 or better from 1984 through 1986 and topped out at .310. His best year was 1985 when he played in 159 games, hit 26 (far and away a career high) homers with 88 RBI, 22 stolen bases, and batted .300. He was named to his one and only All-Star team that year.

After his days in Seattle he jumped around a bit before playing his last MLB game on September 29, 1990 with the White Sox. He went on to play in Japan the next year and would coach some college baseball.

The Score on Phil Bradley – 2.5

As you can see from the picture below, Phil signs in ball point. I see him do this pretty consistently. Ball point rarely comes out well on cards, especially if you are signing fast. And it’s a shame on these too because it looks like Phil has a big signature and fills up the cards pretty well (fills… get it. Anyway…). So while I would say it’s disappointing to get them back in ball point, I kind of expected it from seeing other’s returns.

Thanks Mr. Bradley! I’m going to give these a 2.5.
