The Story of the Autograph
Paul Gillis is a former center in the NHL. He played for the Quebec Nordiques, Chicago Blackhawks, and Hartford Whalers from 1982 to 1993.
Gillis was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. He debuted with the Nordiques in the 1982-’83 season but only played in seven games that first year. He made it into 57 in his second season and then was a full time player as of his third season. His best years were between 1985 and 1989, all years he spent in Quebec. In four out of five of those years he put up between 13-19 goals and had between 24 and 28 assists. His highest point total was in the 1985-’86 season with 43.
He was traded to Chicago in 1991 and then to Hartford in 1992. The 1992-’93 season with Hartford was his last and he only made it into 21 games that year. After his playing days he started coaching. He coached in the AHL, OHL, UHL and CHL. He spent 14 years as a coach and had a winning record in 10 of those seasons.
He is the brother of Mike Gillis who was a player and front office executive.
The Score on Paul Gillis – 6.0
Paul did a pretty good job on these cards. The 1990 Topps cards is so dark though, so really it just gets hidden a bit. On the 1990 Upper Deck card the marker just starts to get a little hollow, but it’s really not that bad. I think it’s a little funny that the puck looks like a little dot on the bottom of his signature on that one.
Thanks Mr. Gillis! I’m giving this return a 6.
