The Story of the Autograph

Nat Moore is a former wide receiver with the Miami Dolphins. He for thirteen season from 1974 through 1986 and made the Pro Bowl and All-Pro once.

Moore was born in Florida and went to high school in Miami. He would end up at the University of Florida after transferring. He actually was a star running back for the Gators in 1973 and 1973. The Dolphins drafted him in the third round of the 1974 NFL Draft with the 78th overall pick. At that time he didn’t know he would have such a long career with the Dolphins but he would spend almost his entire early and then football life in Florida.

In is long career he would end up playing with two all-time great quarterbacks in Bob Griese and Dan Marino. He was All-Pro and made the Pro Bowl in 1977 after making 52 receptions with 12 of them being for touchdowns, a league leading stat. That was probably the best year of his career with those being his highest catch and touchdown totals. He would have a career high 840 yards in 1979 on less catches so the average yards per catch was higher.

He left the Dolphins having broken almost every receiving record the franchise had, but those records have since been broken. Maybe even better is that Moore was known as a humanitarian and philanthropist. He was the NFL’s 1984 Man of the Year and received another philanthropy award in 1986.

I really love these cards of Nat. The mustache/soul patch/afro combo on the design of these cards is so iconic for that time. The 1982 Topps card with the eye black is pretty sweet. Plus that’s one of my favorite football card designs of all time. I find it interesting that Nat seems to make his “N” backwards. I didn’t even notice it at first.

Thanks Mr. Moore! I’m giving these a 5.5.
