The Story of the Autograph

Mark Collins is a former defensive back in the National Football League. He played from 1986 through 1998 primarily with the New York Giants. He also played with the Kansas City Chiefs, Green Bay Packers, and Seattle Seahawks.

Collins was born in St. Louis, Missouri but grew up in California and then attended Cal State Fullerton.  The Giants drafted him in the second round of the 1986 draft with the 44th overall pick. He started nine of 15 games in his rookie season and went on to win a Super Bowl in his first season in the NFL.

He spent eight seasons in New York and was a starting almost every game he was available for by his second year. He would go on to win a second Super Bowl with the Giants after the 1990 season against the Buffalo Bills. That would be a be a building block for a couple really good seasons after that. In 1991 and 1993 he posted four interceptions in each of those years, scoring with on of them in 1993. He also had 70+ tackles in each of those years.

After New York he moved on to Kansas City where he played for three years from 1994 through 1996. 1996 was a career year for Collins. He had career highs in interceptions (6) and tackles (91, 81 solo and ten assists). That would be his last great year. He spent a year each in Green Bay and Seattle after that great 1996 season.

The Score on Mark Collins – 8.0

I love Mark’s signature. It’s got a kind of fanciness to it. My favorite part might be that loopy “M”. But I also love how he mixes the end of his last name with what looks like maybe the number symbol when he puts his number on there.

Thanks Mr. Collins! I’m giving this return an 8.
