The Story of the Autograph

Ken Schrom is a former right-handed starting pitcher. During a career that spanned seven seasons over eight years he played for the Blue Jays, Twins, and Indians.

Schrom was born and raised in Idaho and in high school was a three sport star. He earn 11 athletic letters and was all-start in football, basketball and baseball. The Twins selected him in the tenth round of the 1973 MLB Draft, but he opted to go to college at the University of Idaho instead. There he played quarterback and was the back up on a team that had Dennis Erickson as the offensive coordinator. They ran a more running offense and he skipped football to get to baseball.

The Angels selected him in the 17th round in the 1976 MLB Draft and he chose to sign with them. Four years later they traded him to the Blue Jays and he made his first appearance in the majors with them on August 8, 1980. He would be back in the minors in 1981 and make it back to the majors in 1982. After that season he was cut.

He played three years with the Twins and then his final two with the Indians. His seasons were 1983 with the Twins when he went 15-8 with a 3.71 ERA and 1986 with the Indians where he went 14-7 with a 4.54 ERA that earned him is only All-Star appearance.

These days Ken is the president of the Corpus Christi Hooks of the Texas League who are affiliated with the Astros.

The Score on Ken Schrom – 4.5

Ken has a good looking autograph. His capital letters are really cool. The reason I didn’t score this very well is the marker he used. That can’t be a Sharpie. It kind of look like one of those Crayola washable markers my kids used to us. It definitely can’t cut through the dark jerseys in two of these cards. That ’87 Topps card would look pretty good with a different marker.

Thanks Mr. Schrom! I’m giving this return a 4.5.
