The Story of the Autograph
Ken Dayley is a former left-handed pitcher who played for the Braves, Cardinals and Blue Jays. He spent eleven years in the majors from 1982 through 1993.
Dayley was chosen with the third overall pick in the 1980 MLB Draft by the Atlanta Braves after playing his college ball at the University of Portland. He would make his major league debut two years later on May 13, 1982. His start in Atlanta was split between starting and relieving. After being traded to the Cardinals in a deal that got the Braves Ken Oberkfell, he pretty much spent the rest of his career as a reliever.
He had some great years with the Cardinals and pitched in two post seasons with them where they got to the World Series in 1985 (against the Royals) and 1987 (against the Twins). While his stats are amazing throughout the post season for his career (1-0, 0.44 ERA, 16 games, 20.2 innings, 6 hits, 5 saves), he did give up a grand slam to Kent Hrbek in Game 6 of the 1987 series on his first pitch to him.
He pitched for the Blue Jays to close out his career but he experienced some injuries that cut his time short.
The Score on Ken Dayley – 5.5
I sent Ken five cards and he only sent one back. This is the first time I’ve sent to him so I don’t know if he is a one card guy or something like that. I’ll probably try him again in the future, maybe with less cards though. He has a little bit of a messy signature but he fills up the width of the card pretty well. I could probably have found a better one for him to sign though.
Thanks Mr. Dayley! I’m giving this one a 5.5.
