The Story of the Autograph

Jeff Foster is a former power forward and center in the NBA. He played from 1999 to 2012 and spent his entire career with the Indiana Pacers.

Foster was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. He didn’t join the varsity basketball team until his senior year of high school. He then when on to attend Southwest Texas State University and was All-Southland Conference Second-Team in 1998. The Golden State Warriors took him with the 21st overall pick in the 1999 NBA Draft. They then traded him to the Indiana Pacers for Vonteego Cummings and a future first-round pick.

He was immediately part of one of Indiana’s best teams. In the 1999-2000 he only played in 19 games, but that season the team won the Eastern Conference championship. He was beihind Rik Smits, Sam Perkins, and Zan Tabak at the time. His second season he was a bigger part of the team and played 71 games. He would play behind Brad Miller once he was acquired from the Bulls in the 2001-2002 season.

Miller was traded the following season and the team brought in Scot Pollard, but he beat him out eventually as the starter. His best season might have been 2004-’05 when he played in 61 games with 43 starts and 26.1 minutes per game (a career high). That year he put up a career high 7 points per game along with 9 rebounds per game.

A back injury cut short his playing time in the last three years of his career after surgery.

It’s always interesting to get a signature in silver. Unfortunately the silver markers aren’t always the strongest option. I think it was a good choice on this one anyway because of how dark this image is with the uniform and background.

Thanks Mr. Foster! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
