The Story of the Autograph
Glenn Borgmann is a former catcher in the major leagues. He played from 1972 to 1980 with the Minnesota Twins and Chicago White Sox.
Borgmann went to Miami-Dade Collge and the University of South Alabama and was drafted while at both schools. He was drafted twice before signing when drafted the third time. The Giants took him in the sixth round of the 1969 MLB Draft (January Regular Phase) and then the Pirates took him in the second round of the 1969 MLB Draft (June Secondary Phase) but he didn’t sign. He moved on to South Alabama and the Twins drafted him in the first round of the 1971 MLB Draft with the ninth overall pick and he signed.
After debuting on July 1, 1972, Borgmann was the primary catcher in the second half of the season. But in 1973 he bounced back and forth to the minors. He was back in the lineup in 1974 and played two great seasons before losing his starting spot to Butch Wynegar. He then spent the next three seasons as a backup.
Borgmann moved on to the White Sox as a free agent but started the season in the minors and then split time with Marv Foley. He was a free agent again at the end of the season. While he tried to get on with the Indians, he played eleven games in the minors and called it quits.
The Score on Glenn Borgmann – 6.5
Glenn has a pretty standard signature. I would say it’s on the small side, but not necessarily small compared to some others. I think he uses the right thickness of marker for how he signed these too because that helps fill it up a bit. One thing I do notice is that it almost looks like he makes his signature one name instead of two. I guess that is kind of common in a way, but for some reason it looked more pronounced to me, especially on the 1979 Topps card.
Thanks Mr. Borgmann! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
