The Story of the Autograph

Ed Halicki is a former right-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 1974 to 1980 and spent time with the San Francisco Giants and California Angels.

Halicki is a native of New Jersey. He was first drafted out of Kearny High School in 1968 by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 38th round of the draft, but he chose not to sign. Instead he chose to go to Monmouth University. The Giants then drafted him in the 24th round  of the 1972 MLB Draft. He would go on to debut for them two years later on July 8, 1974.

He worked as a starter for the majority of his career, really until his final year that he split between the Giants and the Angels. He only had one real winning season in 1977. That year he put up a 16-12 record with a 3.32 ERA in 29 games with 28 starts and nearly 200 innings pitched. However in 1975 he has his career moment. On August 24, 1975 he threw a no-hitter for the Giants against the Mets. It was the last no-hitter for the Giants until Jonathan Sanchez did it in 2009.

The Score on Ed Halicki – 6.5

Ed has a somewhat standard signature. It almost seems odd to see the regular upper case “E” and then the script “d” in his first name. But I actually like how his “H” looks more like a “K” too. Those little quirky things can make a signature fun and maybe stick out in a group of them.

Thanks Mr. Halicki! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
