The Story of the Autograph

David Segui is a former first baseman who played from 1990 through 2004. During that time he played for seven teams: the Orioles (twice), Mets, Expos, Mariners, Blue Jays, Rangers, and Indians.

Segui was born in Kansas City and his Dad is former MLB pitcher Diego Segui. He played his college ball at Kansas City, KS Community College and at Louisiana Tech. The Orioles drafted him in the 18th round of the 1987 MLB Draft and he made his major league debut for them on May 8, 1990.

He was trade to the Mets before the 1994 season and spent 1994 and 1995 with them. I guess you could say that was fateful for Segui as that was the heart of his involvement with HGH and Steriods. He was named by Jason Grimsley as an HGH user and was part of the Mitchell Report for using Steroids. This is somethings he has fully admitted to.

Even considering this, there aren’t anything in his statistics that stick out terribly above other things. His career high in homers was 21 on top of hitting 19 two other times (not what you would call a power hitter. He was never a bad hitter and averaged a .291 average for his career. Not making excuses for anything he did, but he’s just not your classic case of seeing a user with a spike in his stats.

The Score on David Segui – 7.5

David has a pretty fun signature. I think it’s kind of odd that he added a bible inscription on two of these but not the other three. I’m not sure if he picks out certain ones or maybe he just forgot. He seems to be a consistent signer and always does a solid job on your cards… as long as you can see it (that ’90 Fleer card is just so darn dark).

Thanks Mr. Segui! I’m giving this return a 7.5.
