The Story of the Autograph

Chris Donnels is a former third baseman in the major leagues. He played from 1991 through 2002 with the New York Mets, Houston Astros, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks.

Donnels was born and raised in California. He attended Loyola Marymount University and was drafted by the Mets in the first round of the 1987 MLB Draft with the 24th overall pick. After several years in the minors he debuted on May 7, 1991. But after only a little time with the Mets he was drafted by the Marlins with the 67th pick of the 1993 MLB Expansion Draft. However, he never actually played for the Marlins. He was put on waivers a month after later and picked up by the Astros.

Donnels never played for more than Two-plus seasons for any team he was with and the most games he ever appeared in for a season was 88 in his first year with Houston. In a career that featured a lot of bouncing around he hit 17 homers with 86 RBI and a .233 average over eight seasons. He even played in Japan for three seasons with the Orix Blue Wave from 1997 to 1999.

Even after his last games in the major he bounced between organizations and went to the Cubs and Rockies after playing a few games for the Diamondbacks in 2002.

Chris has a pretty cool and bubbly signature. I love the style of his “D” especially. As for these cards, they are kind of funny in different ways. The 1992 Topps cards is a bit awkward for the color of blue on the Mets uniform. As for the 1993 Fleer card, he’s in a Mets uniform but it’s a Marlins card, a team he never actually played for and only really spent a month with.

Thanks Mr. Donnels! I’m giving this return a 7.
