The Story of the Autograph
Brad Shaw is a former defenseman in the National Hockey League. He played from 1985 to 1999 with the Hartford Whalers, Ottawa Senators, Washington Capitals and St. Louis Blues.
Shaw was born and raised in Ontario, Canada. He started playing with the Ottawa 67’s as a seventeen year old and led their defenseman in points with 72 in 68 games. He continued to improve offensively and was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the fifth round of the 1982 NHL Draft. The Red Wings then traded his rights to the Whalers for a pick the in the 1984 NHL Draft. He made his debut in 1985 but would only play a handful of games in the NHL during those first four seasons with the team.
In 1989 he joined the team for good and played 64 games with three goals and 32 assists and was voted to the All-Rookie team that year. He even continued his good play into the playoffs but the Whale would lose a first round matchup with the Bruins. He was pretty consistent in the next few years and that was even through a trade to the Devils in 1992 where he was then taken by the Senators in the 1992 NHL Expansion Draft just a few days later. Unfortunately after the 1993-’94 season his play dropped off and he never played more than 16 games in any season after that.
Shaw coached in several places and was a head coach with the New York Islanders for 40 games during the 2005-’06 season.
The Score on Brad Shaw – 7.0
I like Brad’s signature a lot. I think its the “B” and the “S” but especially that “S” and how it leads into the rest of his last name. Even though these are pretty busy, they all came out consistently good with those Upper Deck cards leading the way. I think that Topps card is pretty good as well.
Thanks Mr. Shaw! I’m giving this return a 7.
