The Story of the Autograph

Bob Scanlan is a former right-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 1991 to 2001 with the Chicago Cubs, Milwaukee Brewers (twice), Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals, Houston Astros, and Montreal Expos.

Scanlan is a native of southern California. He was drafted out of Harvard High School in Beverly Hills by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 25th round of the 1984 Major League Draft. He never played a game for the Phillies though. They traded him to the Cubs along with Chuck McElroy in 1991 in a deal that brought the Phillies Mitch Williams. He made his major league debut for the Cubs on May 7, 1991.

He spent more years in Chicago (three) and Milwaukee (two, plus one more later) than anywhere else he went in his career. He was primarily a reliever but did start a few games in Chicago and a bit more in Milwaukee.

In recent years he’s worked for the San Diego Padres on their radio broadcasts and had previously done pre and post game TV for them.

Bob is another great example of a nice angle and lean to his signature. He does a great job filling up the cards pretty well. I think one thing to note with him is that it appears he might only sign up to four cards at a time. These came out great though, especially that 1992 Topps card with that great blue marker.

Thanks Mr. Scanlan! I’m giving this return a 7.
