The Story of the Autograph

Bill Krueger is a former starting/relief pitcher in the major leagues. His thirteen-year career lasted from 1983 to 1995 and pitched for eight teams: Oakland, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Seattle, Minnesota, Montreal, Detroit, and San Diego.

Bill was born in Illinois but graduated from high school in Oregon and then went to college at the University of Portland on a basketball scholarship. He didn’t pitch for the pilots until his junior year in 1979 and the next year he was drafted by the A’s. He made his way through the A’s system and first appeared in the majors on April 10, 1983.

He would bounce around between the majors and minors in those first couple years. Then Bill moved around a bit. The Athletics traded him to the Dodgers, the Dodgers, traded him to the Pirates, and from there he signed as a free agent in what seems like a yearly thing.

These days Krueger works as a financial advisor in Seattle and covers the Mariners as well.

Bill doesn’t have a big autograph or a crazy autograph, but he did one thing that I love. He change his marker to go with the cards he was signing. That is such a special touch that makes you realize he cares (even if it’s just a little) about what he’s doing.

Thanks Mr. Krueger! I’m giving this return a 7.
