The Story of the Autograph

Bill Haselman is a former catcher in the major leagues. He was primarily a back up over 13 seasons from 1990 to 2003. During that time he played with the Texas Rangers (three times), Seattle Mariners, Boston Red Sox (twice), and Detroit Tigers.

Haselman was born in New Jersey but by the time he went to high school he was in California where he also played football in those year. He originally planned to go to the University of Nevada, Reno to play football but instead went to UCLA. At UCLA he played behind Todd Zeile while also playing a little football. In 1987 the Rangers chose him with the 23rd overall pick in the first round of the MLB Draft. After a few years in the minors he made his major league debut on September 3, 1990.

He played in just seven games to close out that season and was back in the minors for the two seasons. During that time the Mariners selected him off of waivers in May 1992 and he would make it up to the majors for a few games later that season. In 1993 he started getting more of a chance to play and got into 58 games.

The season he played the most in was probably his best overall season, as playing more obviously gives you a chance for better numbers. In 1996 with Boston he played in a career high 77 games and his .274 with a career high eight homers and 35 RBI, also a career high.

In more recent years he has been a coach, including on the Red Sox 2004 World Series Championship team. He also managed in the minors within the Rangers, Angels and Dodgers systems.

The Score on Bill Haselman – 7.5

Bill has a nice signature. His first name looks like a pretty standard style. It’s the “H” and the “l” in his last name that add some character. I think my favorite of these two in the 1991 Score card. That one just give his signature the best chance to show off.

Thanks Mr. Haselman! I’m giving this return a 7.5.
