The Story of the Autograph

Annika Sorenstam is a former professional golfer. She turned professional in 1992 and was active until her retirement in 2008.

Born in Bro, Sweden near Stockholm, and was a talented athlete growing up as she was a nationally ranked junior tennis player and played soccer as well. She was such a good athlete that the coach of the Swedish National Ski Team tried to get her family to move to improve her skiing year round.

But it was golf that interested her as she received her first set of clubs at the age of twelve with her sister and they shared the clubs. She was really good but was so shy that she used to three-putt at the end of a tournament to avoid giving victory speeches. She would go on to play golf at the University of Arizona and won seven collegiate title and became the first non-Amercan and first freshman to win the individual NCAA Division I Championship.

She turned pro in 1992 and was the LPGA Tour Rookie of the Year in 1994. She won Player of the Year eight times (1995, 1997, 1998, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005), was the LPGA Tour Money Winner eight times (the same years she won Player of the Year) and the Vare Trophy winner given to the player with the lowest scoring average for the season six times (1995, 1996, 1998, 2001, 2002, 2005). All that and more led her to be name to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2003.

I think this looks like Annika just signs her last name. That is definitely an “S” at the beginning of it so that should make sense. This is just another example that signed Allen & Ginter cards look great, and this I think is my least favorite Allen & Ginter design.

Thanks Ms. Sorenstam! I’m giving this return a 7.5.
