The Story of the Autograph
Steve Jordan was one of the most reliable and productive tight ends of the 1980s and early 1990s. Over his 13-year NFL career, all spent with the Minnesota Vikings, Jordan became known for his consistency, durability, and leadership. Although he may not have received the same level of attention as other stars, Jordan’s contributions on the field made him one of the best tight ends of his era.
Born on January 10, 1961, in Phoenix, Arizona, Steve Jordan grew up with a passion for football. He attended Brown University, where he excelled on the football field despite playing for a smaller Ivy League program. Jordan’s skills stood out even at the collegiate level, and he earned All-Ivy League honors during his time with the Brown Bears.
Though coming from a less traditional football powerhouse, Jordan’s talent was undeniable. His combination of size, athleticism, and football IQ made him a prospect that NFL teams couldn’t overlook, leading to his selection by the Minnesota Vikings in the seventh round of the 1982 NFL Draft.
After being drafted, Steve Jordan joined the Minnesota Vikings, where he would spend the entirety of his professional career. Despite being a later-round draft pick, Jordan quickly made an impact and became the starting tight end for the Vikings by his second season. His ability to block effectively and catch passes over the middle of the field made him a key part of the Vikings’ offense.
Throughout the 1980s and into the early 1990s, Jordan was one of the most consistent tight ends in the league. From 1985 to 1991, he was selected to six consecutive Pro Bowls, showcasing his reputation as one of the top players at his position. During this period, Jordan was known for his steady hands and excellent route-running ability, making him a reliable target for a variety of Vikings quarterbacks.
Jordan’s best season came in 1986, when he recorded 58 receptions for 859 yards and six touchdowns. That season exemplified his ability to be a dynamic offensive threat, not just as a blocker but as a receiver who could stretch the field. Over the course of his career, Jordan caught 498 passes for 6,307 yards and 28 touchdowns, numbers that placed him among the top tight ends of his era.
One of the most notable aspects of Jordan’s career was his durability. He played in 176 games during his 13 seasons, missing very few games due to injury. His longevity, especially for a position as physically demanding as tight end, is a testament to his conditioning, toughness, and preparation. In addition to his on-field abilities, Jordan was a respected leader in the Vikings’ locker room. Known for his professionalism and work ethic, he served as a role model for younger players and helped the team maintain a competitive edge throughout the 1980s and early 1990s.
After the 1994 season, Steve Jordan retired from professional football, leaving behind a legacy of consistency and excellence. Despite not achieving the same level of fame as some of his contemporaries, Jordan’s contributions were well-respected within the league, and he remains a beloved figure in Minnesota Vikings history. Following his NFL career, Jordan stayed active in various business ventures and charity work. He also remained connected to the game through his family, as his son, Cameron Jordan, became a standout defensive end in the NFL, continuing the family’s football legacy.

Steve is a pretty consisten signer on the football side of things. These came out really well but it helps that each of these gives him a good place to sign and show off his signature. I think my favorite of this bunch is the 1991 Score card.
