Steve Farr carved out a reputation as a reliable and durable relief pitcher during his 11-year career in Major League Baseball (MLB). From 1985 to 1990, Farr became a key piece of the Royals’ bullpen. He transitioned to a full-time relief role and quickly gained a reputation for his ability to handle high-leverage situations. His steady presence and strong fastball-slider combination made him a trusted closer, especially in the late innings.
Farr signed with the New York Yankees ahead of the 1991 season. Pitching in the bright lights of Yankee Stadium, he continued to excel. Farr notched 23 saves in his first year in New York, helping stabilize the Yankees’ bullpen during a transitional period for the franchise. He spent three seasons with the Yankees, compiling 78 saves and cementing his reputation as one of the more dependable closers of the early 1990s.
Farr’s final MLB stop came with the Boston Red Sox in 1994. He retired after the season, concluding a career that saw him compile a 48-45 record, 3.25 ERA, and 132 saves over 509 games. His ability to adapt to different roles, from starter to middle reliever to closer, made him a valuable asset throughout his career.
After retiring from professional baseball, Farr stepped away from the public eye, focusing on family life and community involvement. He has occasionally participated in alumni events and remained a beloved figure in Kansas City and New York for his contributions to their respective teams.

Steve is a pretty consistent signer from the perspective of the quality and style of his autograph. I love his “S” and “F” and how they go with each other so well. What I find not as consistent is how frequently you’ll get a success from him. There have been times where I don’t get things back, but then others when it seems quick. Just a good thing to know going in.
