The Story of the Autograph
Skip Lockwood is a former major league pitcher with the Kansas City Athletics, Seattle Pilots, Milwaukee Brewers, California Angels, New York Mets and Boston Red Sox. His played from 1965 through 1980.
Lockwood was born and raised in Massachusetts. He played several sports in high school and still hold their 100 yard dash record. He was signed by the Kansas City Athletics out of high school as a third baseman in 1964. He showed promise in the minors but in limited appearances in 1965 he didn’t do too well.
The Astros took him in the Rule 5 Draft in 1967 but was returned to his original club and the Athletics started converting him to a pitcher. Then he went on to the Seattle Pilots in the 1968 expansion draft and played for them in their first-and-only season. He stayed with them in Milwaukee and was a starting pitcher during his time there until his final season there in 1973 when he made more than half of his appearances out of the bullpen.
Lockwood moved on to the Angels for a season and then joined the Mets in 1965. This is when he really started to break out as a reliever and closer. Unfortunately for Lockwood, it wasn’t a great time to be a Met though. He spent one season with the Red Sox before retiring.
The Score on Skip Lockwood – 5.0
Skip has a kind of tight and compact signature to start and then it stretches out for the back end of his last name. Unfortunately it’s hard to see it too well on these because of how busy some of the cards are where he signed. The marker is a little bit light too. I don’t know if it was running out of ink or maybe it’s not exactly a Sharpie.
Thanks Mr. Lockwood! I’m giving this return a 5 overall.
