The Story of the Autograph
Roy Gerela is a former kicker in the NFL. The native of Canada played from 1969 to 1979 with the Houston Oilers, Pittsburgh Steelers, and San Diego Chargers.
Gerela was born in Sarrail, Alberta, Canada. He went to high school in a much different place, Honolulu, Hawaii. He then played college football for the New Mexico State Aggies. The Houston Oilers drafted him in the fourth round of the NFL/AFL draft and he played for them in the AFL in 1969 and then the NFL in 1970.
He moved on to Pittsburgh in 1971. He became a fan favorite and had a fan club called Gerela’s Gorillas. He was a member of their championship teams in 1974, ’75, and ’78 and led the NFL in score in 1973 and ’74. He also earned Pro Bowl appearances in 1972 and ’74.
Gerela was released before the 1979 season in favor of Matt Bahr. He went to the Chargers and played three games with them before a torn groin muscle meant the end of his career. He went on to working as an assistant coach in high school and college before becoming a head coach at Gadsden High School in New Mexico.
His brothers played in the CFL, also as kickers, and his son was a linebacker in the CFL

I don’t think you can go wrong with a former Super Bowl champion, and Roy certainly fits that. In fact he was part of multiple Super Bowl winning teams. He did a pretty good job on this one but the old card didn’t take the ink very well. That said, Roy has a pretty fancy signature. That capital “G” is always really nice to see.
