The Story of the Autograph

Robert Griffin III is a backup quarterback in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens. He’s been in the league since a breakout rookie season in 2012 with the Redskins. He then moved on to the Browns before being released and sitting out a year.

Griffin went to college at Baylor and had a pretty great career there playing in a wide open offense. All of it built up to an amazing 2011 season where he threw for 4,200+ yards, 37 touchdowns and just six interceptions. In addition to that he ran for 699 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground. He won the Heisman, Davey O’Brien, and Manning Awards along wit the AP and Sporting News Player of the year awards. That enticed the Redskins to make him the second pick of the 2012 NFL Draft.

Everybody in DC was psyched for RG3 and the hype machine was crazy. Of course he added to that by doing some pretty great things on the field. In his rookie season he threw for 3200 yards, 20 touchdowns and just five interceptions. On top of that he ran for 815 yards and seven touchdowns. That earned him the Offensive Rookie of the Year award and a trip to the Pro Bowl. But more importantly it bought the Redskins a trip back to the playoffs. Unfortunately all that running in his somewhat slight build didn’t go well. He had been hurt during the year and was wearing a knee brace. A bad turn in the playoff game saw him tear his ACL.

Griffin was “All in for Week 1” and was determined to make it back to start the next season. But he was never really the same. Whether it was trying to change the way he played or being tentative or losing a step or probably more realistically, still recovering from the surgery, he wasn’t the same RGIII. It definitely turned a lot of fans on him because of the way the relationship with Kirk Cousins was played out and his Twitter presence and all sorts of things.

Now he’s trying to make it again in the NFL.

I really didn’t expect to get this back. I had sent to Robert before but I guess that was when he was his star was a bit brighter in the NFL. This one came out pretty good. His signature is a pretty good size for a magazine. And he also signed in a pretty good place. I’m glad I still had something around for him to sign.

Thanks Mr. Griffin! I’m giving this one a 7.
