The Story of the Autograph
Richard Dotson is a right-handed starting pitcher who played in the majors from 1979 to 1990. During his time in the league he spent the majority of his time in Chicago with the White Sox. After the White Sox he spent time in New York with the Yankees, a second stint with the White Sox and then a little time in Kansas City.
For the majority of his career Dotson was part of a bunch of substandard teams. He had a 12-10 rookie season and was in the top ten of the Rookie of the Year voting. After a couple average years the White Sox were contenders in 1983. Dotson was a big part of their success. He posted a 22-7 record with a 3.23 ERA. He would help the White Sox to the ALCS but they would lose to the Baltimore Orioles. He was top five in the Cy Young voting and also received MVP votes.
The next year Richard earned an appearance in the All-Star game. He had 14 complete games and a 14-15 record at the end of the year. He would only put up one more winning record in is career in his first year in New York.
The Score on Richard Dotson – 5.5
Richard has a really small and simple signature. It’s kind of hard to pick out his name. You can kind of see the “R” and “D” on the ’81 Topps a little better. But really it’s not big and it’s kind of all on top of itself. All that said, he uses a good marker and his signature is always pretty consistent.
Thanks Mr. Dotson! I’m giving this return a 5.5.
