Something is starting to bug me… cicadas.
I live in Northern Virginia and the Brood X cicadas have come out of their 17-year hibernation. The weather is warming up and that starting to bring more and more out. I think if you live in a new neighborhood there is a chance you don’t see them as immediately, but I live in a neighborhood built in the 60’s and near a large park around a lake so there’s a lot of old trees that haven’t been disturbed.
We first started to see them little by little. Now we’re starting to hear them. It’s kind of like white noise and it started out a little soft as I think the concentration of them is in the park. But now it’s getting a little bit louder.
We have some old trees and I was weeding around one yesterday. As I grab the weeds (and some carcasses) it was as if I was picking up piles of really thin potato chips. It didn’t gross me out, but I’m not going to tell you I like it either.
I’m wondering how it will be to mow the lawn in the next few weeks. They are just so dumb and clumsy and they sort of just hit you as they fly around. I’ll probably give you more updates in the coming weeks.
Hope you have a great week! Stay safe!
The Review
Here’s what happened on the blog last week:
- Monday: Bob Shirley
- Tuesday: Pete O’Brien, Mike Stanley
- Wednesday: Del Unser
- Thursday: Sid Bream
- Friday: Garrett Cooper
- Saturday: Mark Clark
- Sunday: Rich Wortham
Baseball all week. There was one thing here that was a bit of foreshadowing though. I posted a Garrett Cooper return and then he went and killed my Mets in this serious. Two homers as I write this and one of those was a walk-off winner.
The Preview
Here’s what I have coming up for this week:
- Monday: Foli me once, shame on you…
- Tuesday: What Elster are you doing today?
- Tuesday: Great catch in ’69…
- Wednesday: Ring of Kerry…
- Thursday: Wedding Naehring…
- Friday: Not that Randy Johnson…
- Saturday: Check the Mike…
- Sunday: At your Beck and call…
There’s a few that I paid for in this group coming up so that’s a little different for me. Otherwise this week feels very random. Not that other weeks aren’t, but some of these feel out of the blue.
Other Notes
Two good weeks in a row is certainly going a low way to pick up the overall May numbers. This week I got 20 back and the consistency kept up. Last week consistency meant a big first day and then a lot of single return days. This week was a little more varied but I keep finding things in the mailbox. I’ve actually been sending a few to team addresses and I got one of those back already.
Have a great week!
