The Story of the Autograph
Rawly Eastwick is a former pitcher in the major leagues. He played for 8 season, working in relief, between 1974 and 1981. He played for the Reds, Cardinals, Yankees, Phillies, Royals and Cubs.
Eastwick was born and raised in New Jersey. The Reds drafted him out of high school in the 1969 MLB Draft. He made his debut with them several years later on September 12, 1974. Although he would start the next season back in the minors, he was called back up to the big club and would tie for the league lead in saves with 22.
He was on the Reds at just the right time as the “Big Red Machine” was kicking into gear. He was great in the 1975 World Series, earning a win in Games 2 and 3 and the save in Game 5 as the Reds won in seven games. He was again great in 1976 going 11-5 with a 2.06 ERA and a league leading 26 saves that helped the Reds to a second consecutive World Series title.
But 1977 brought contract issues and Eastwick was traded the Cardinals by June. He moved on to the Yankees in 1978 on a five year deal but the Yankees would trade him to Philadelphia before the end of his first year there. He bounced around after Philadelphia and retired after the 1981 season.
The Score on Rawly Eastwick – 6.0
Rawly has a bit of a messy, chicken scratch-ish signature. You can read it, especially his first name, but he must be getting tired towards the end of it there. The signatures on the cards with the facsimile signatures on them actually came out pretty well consider I don’t normally like those.
Thanks Mr. Eastwick! I’m giving this return a 6 overall.
